Local broadcasting icon Marlowe dies at 86

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Local sports broadcasting icon Chuck Marlowe, 86, has died.

A fixture on WTTV for 37 years, Marlowe began broadcasting Indiana University basketball games on the network in 1958. He was also the sports director for WTTV.

Marlowe also spent 41 years as pit reporter for the Indianapolis 500 with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network.

For 29 years, Marlowe was the host of The Bob Knight Show.

Local professional wrestling broadcast Big Time/Championship Wrestling also featured Marlowe’s voice.

Marlowe began his career in 1952 at radio station WXLW and also spent time at WGRT and WHMB.

Marlowe, a Sullivan, Ind. native, graduated from Shortridge High School and later Butler University.

Marlowe is survived by his wife, Marian, a sister, and four sons and their families.
