Victim strangled during Noblesville home invasion
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – A suspect in a recent home invasion is still on the run, according to officials with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say it happened on Feb. 13 in the 18900 block of Mallery Road shortly after 9 p.m. When officers arrived the suspect had already fled the scene.
According to the owner of the home, she returned home and found a male inside her bedroom who began to hit her. When she fought back and the suspect strangled her, causing her to loss consciousness. She said when she woke up the suspect was gone.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and released.
Police say a few items were taken from the home. The victim was unable to give a clear description of the suspect. She said they were wearing a thick coat and black mask.
Neighbors tell 24-Hour News 8 any kind of crime, let alone a home invasion, is something they’re not used to experiencing. They’re just hopeful it’s a one-time incident and not the start of a disturbing trend.
“I thought, oh that easily could have been me, easily, what would I have done and who would have been with me,” said Lacy Ingram, a neighbor down the street.
“A person’s home is their castle and we don’t want anyone to have to be fearful in living in their home in this community and so we take this very, very seriously,” said Hamilton County Sheriff Mark Bowen. “It very easily could have been (anyone) and so again it’s important for neighbors to rally around each other to communicate with one another and to let us know if they see anything suspicious.”
Ingram’s ready to do that on top of defending her home. “We move out to the country for a reason. We have a lot of our own protection and that is how we protect this house,” she said.
