Anderson hospital gets simulator that could help save infants’ lives

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) – Community Hospital Anderson has a new more realistic way to train its staff on newborns.

Thanks to a $30,000 donation, they now have a life-like baby simulator.

A staff member told 24-Hour News 8 that she has been looking for a simulator for about eight years.

Now that the hospital has one, they can train nurses and staff to become more comfortable in situations where they need to resuscitate infants.

“The more we can practice this, the better it will be for even our younger nurses to become more comfortable with,” Deirdre Kettery, a floor nurse and staff educator at Community Hospital Anderson said. “The more you can do something and have it become a habit, the better the outcomes, the more the whole group works as a team.”

In the past, Kettery said, Riley Children’s Hospital has come with its own simulator to train staff.

The first group check off training session for the hospital is next week.
