10-year-old saves grandma’s life

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)  – 10-year-old Jasmine Nichols may only be in the fourth grade but she’s being hailed a hero.

Authorities say her quick thinking and poise helped save her grandmother’s life.

“Something told me to get up, I get up in the middle of the night to use the restroom but sometimes I can hold it,” Nichols said.

It was just after midnight, Nichols’ mother was at work and her grandma was in the living room.

“So I just checked on her and she was sweating and I shook her and said nana nana wake up and she wouldn’t wake up,” Nichols said.

Constance Reid was unresponsive. Reid is the grandmother of 15, just had surgery last week and said she took her medicine.

“Before I knew anything, i went straight to sleep, and the next thing I know, all of these problems have come around me,” Reid added.

“I thought she was going to be gone forever and that really hurt me inside and I kept crying and took a glance at the floor and found her phone,” Nichols said.

Nichols called her mother and then called 911 and stayed on the phone until the ambulance arrived.

.

“I’m like oh Lord, I knew something was going on because I was outside in the cold,” Reid said about the ordeal.

It was a life saving call, and the life saved is a very special one for Nichols.

.

“She’s more than my best friend,” Nichols said of her grandma.

Reid is a diabetic and has congestive heart failure but is doing much better.
