Bipartisan group urges Carrier to stay in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Lawmakers are now working to keep HVAC jobs in Indiana despite a large manufacture making plans to move to Mexico. Also, Wal-Mart made a big announcement after their meeting in Indianapolis.

Jane King was on Daybreak Thursday morning with these stories and other local and national business headlines.

Seven elected officials, four republicans and three democrats have joined to urge United Technologies Corp. to reconsider its decision to move its Indiana Carrier operations to Mexico. The bipartisan group sent a letter seeking meetings with the leasers of the company, which manufactures heating, ventilation and air condition equipment in Indianapolis and Huntington. The Indiana operation employs 2,100 people.

In other business news, Wal-Mart will create hundreds of management positions as part of a new program aimed at improving the fresh food sections at its U.S. stores. The store has already hired over 30 field mangers and plans to hire hundreds more over the next three years.
