Investigators requesting warrant to search murder suspect’s van

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana State Police and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation into a Zionsville double murder is far from over.

Thursday, investigators will request a search warrant to search the van police say Lucius Hamilton III drove to the Hilton Hotel Wednesday. Hamilton is accused of killing his 31-year-old niece and her 4-year-old son before killing himself in the Hilton Hotel during a standoff with police.

Police said Hamilton drove a white Dodge van with a Wabash College plate WA25 to the downtown Indianapolis hotel, after checking it out from the college around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators towed the van from the hotel’s garage to a secure location Wednesday.

Once investigators receive the search warrant, they will be processing the van for any evidence related to the murders. ISP said they may finish processing the van on Thursday, but they may not complete the work until Friday. Any evidence ISP finds will be part of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office investigation.

ISP said even though there is no longer a threat and the man police believe was behind the murders is dead, detectives will still be conducting a thorough investigation. ISP expects to provide another update on Thursday afternoon at the earliest.
