Raymond Giehll III speaks about ‘unbelievable and tragic event’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – After a tragedy struck his family on Wednesday, Raymond Giehll III, the husband and father of the Zionsville homicide victims is speaking out.

His wife, Kathryn Giehll and 4-year-old son, Raymond IV, were murdered Wednesday in their home.

He first thanked the law enforcement agencies for their “respectful handling of our family tragedy yesterday.” He then goes on to remember his wife and son.

Katie and Raymond IV were my entire family and the hole their loss leaves is unexplainable. We know that they are in God’s watchful arms and ask for your prayers for our family. We appreciate all the condolences that we have received. At this time we ask that we be given the respect and time to grieve that we deserve.  The loss of Katie and Raymond IV is an unbelievable and tragic event in our lives. We also ask that any services that we plan receive that same respect from the media.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office met with all of the first responders who worked the crime scenes in Hamilton County and in the Hilton Hotel and Suites in downtown Indianapolis, and is starting to put together all of the pieces from the events on Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office said that it was Giehll who found his wife and son inside their home on Wednesday. Officials stated that she had sent a text message to her husband earlier in the day stating that her uncle, Lucius Hamilton, was in their home. When her husband couldn’t reach her on the phone, he tapped into the home security system. When he saw Hamilton in the home, he rushed home, but his wife and son were already dead.

Hamilton, according to police, left the home in his SUV and then checked out a van where he worked, Wabash College. Both vehicles are now being processed for evidence.

Police went to Wabash College where Hamilton worked, and found that he had checked out a work van. Authorities searched the campus, but did not find Hamilton on the campus.

After working several leads, officials stated that they were able to locate Hamilton at the downtown hotel, where they found him dead in a hotel room.

Authorities believe Hamilton murdered his niece and her 4-year-old son over a multi-million dollar trust. Officials say all three were beneficiaries.

An autopsy revealed that Kathryn suffered three gun shot wounds and her son suffered one.

The Marion County coroner released that the cause of death for Hamilton was a gunshot would to the head, in the manner of suicide.
