Franklin man still hospitalized after hit and run, suspect still on the loose

FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) – A Franklin man is trying to get back on his feet as police search for the hit and run driver who put him in the hospital.

The crash happened back in January on King Street near Middleton. Even though the crash has been cleaned up, the pain and suffering are far from over.

Grant Black has lived with excruciating pain, all the way down to his toes, for the past month.

“I was on my way home. I looked in my rearview mirror and I see a car coming or a truck. Then boom. It was over with,” recalls Black.

Black says he was hit from behind, which caused him to hit another driver head on. Witnesses say the driver who rear-ended Black, kept going. All were rushed to the hospital.

No word on the other driver and his passenger’s condition.

But Black suffered several broken bones, 16 fractured ribs and more. He immediately went into surgery with his wife Teairra by his side.

“They put the stabilizing bar in and put traction on his leg to keep everything in place until the swelling went down and could operate,” she said.

He’s had to undergo three surgeries, had around 200 staples, 9 plates in various body parts and so many pins that they lost track of how many.

“We just want to get him the best help we can get him to get him back home. Because it’s not just me. It’s our girls,” said Mrs. Black.

Grant is now undergoing a daily regimen of physical therapy. He is able to stand for about 30 seconds on his own. He is healing faster than expected. Now, the Blacks are shifting their focus to finding the person responsible.

“We’re hoping that it pulls on somebody’s heart strings and gets someone to come forward,” said Mrs. Black.

Police say the suspect is still on the loose. They don’t have much of a description. But they believe the suspect left the area in a small, tan SUV. Contact the Franklin Police Department at (317) 736-3670 with any information.
