Police: Peace sign-flashing driver drinks beer after chase

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A man was arrested in Johnson County Wednesday after police say he led officers on a chase and then drank beer in front of them.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jimmy J. Koller was arrested on a preliminary charge of operating under the influence of alcohol.

Around noon Wednesday, a deputy saw Koller’s car speeding and passing vehicles on State Road 44 in a no-passing zone, the Daily Journal reports.

Police say Koller’s vehicle continued to do so even as the deputy caught up to him. According to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy saw Koller giving other drivers the peace sign.

The chase only lasted a few miles but reached 85 mph. It eventually ended at a gas station off State Road 135 in Trafalgar. Police say Koller got out of the vehicle, reached inside, grabbed an open beer and began drinking it in front of officers. Koller said he’d had several drinks, according to the report.

Police took the beer away and dumped it out. Koller was arrested and taken to the Johnson County Jail where he had a blood-alcohol content of .16 percent.
