7 arrested in Miami Co. after 2 drug investigations

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Seven people were arrested this week after two drug investigations in Miami County.

In the first CLEAN Team investigation, Aaron Cardwell, 19, Destiny B. Hattabaugh, 20, Thomas Jones, 20, John R. Koontz, 29, and Tosha Koontz, 31, all from Peru, were arrested. Officers say they began their investigation after getting a tip about possible heroin use and dealing.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the home where the five people lived. During their search, officers say they found marijuana, prescription medication, heroin, cocaine, a cutting agent, a loaded handgun, and drug paraphernalia.

John and Tosha Koontz, Cardwell, Hattabaugh and Jones were all booked into the Miami County Jail on various drug charges. John and Tosha Koontz are also facing neglect charges because they have children.

Police say a second, unrelated, drug investigation resulted in the arrests of Sean Murray, 30 and his wife, Alicia Murray, 32, from Peru. Oficers obtained a search warrant for their home and found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Two of the Murray’s three children were home at the time. They were placed into the care of Child Protective Services.

The Murrays were transported to the Miami County Jail to face charges for possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, neglect of a dependent (two counts), and possession of paraphernalia.
