McDonald’s testing low-cal breakfast bowls in California

(CNN) – McDonald’s is testing out some new, low-calorie breakfast items in a couple of California cities.

Starting this week, people in Los Angeles and San Diego will be able to purchase two different low carbohydrate breakfast bowls.

One contains egg whites, turkey sausage, spinach and kale and clocks in at only 250 calories.

Another has scrambled egg and chorizo sausage with hash browns, salsa and pico de gallo. That has 460 calories.

McDonald’s will also begin using lower calorie Chobani Greek yogurt in its parfaits and smoothies.

A spokeswoman said the tests are an effort to customize the menu to Californian tastes.
