Old building gets new life and meaning with Our Restaurant

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) —In the summer of 2014, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department raided Big Fellas Restaurant on the city’s North side. The raid came after police were tipped off to a casino and strip club inside.

In the days and months after the restaurant was raided, some questioned what would become of the building that sits on the corner of Fairfield and College.

“I sit in that parking lot across the street, and I use to pray and say Lord I wish I can get that building and open me a restaurant,” said Eddie Owens.

Little did Owens know his prayer would become reality. He made a pitch to the building’s owners to become the new tenants, and the ownership group accepted his plan.

“This is a God sent thing, I’m walking in obedience,” said Owens, who named the soul food eatery Our Restaurant.

24-Hour News 8 took a tour of the new restaurant which will include not only food, but also a banquet hall. Owens wanted to ensure the restaurant would be a place that would live out its name so he will include a wrestling program upstairs for teens after school. Support groups from parents, girls, and boys will also be offered to residents in the community.

This Sunday, Our Restaurant will offer a magic show for the community. Owens is asking for families to come and watch the show.
