Associate dean at IU resigns amid sexual assault claims

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – Indiana University announced that their director of student ethics has resigned. This follows accusations of sexual assault.

On Friday, the university said that Jason Casares turned in his resignation, effective immediately. The university said they had no further comments because it is a personal matter.

Earlier in February, Casares, an associated dean at the university, was put on administrative leave, after sexual assault accusations against him became public.

Casares was also the president-elect of ASCA, a group that helps universities around the country with student conduct issues. An IU spokesperson said Casares resigned from the leadership role following the accusations, though he remained a member.

According to the university, the investigation revealed that the incident took place in Fort Worth Texas and was unrelated to his work on the IU Bloomington campus.

Jill Creighton, a member of ASCA, is the woman accusing Casares of assault.

In the letter, she says that Casares took advantage of her after she had too much to drink at a conference in December. She reported the incident to police, and asked the group to impeach Casares. She says at that point, Casares resigned for supposed medical reasons.

IU is re-examining all 18 sexual misconduct cases heard by Casares during the academic year.
