IMPD asking for help finding hit-and-run suspect

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — IMPD detectives need your help finding the person responsible for a hit-and-run crash.

Police believe they know what type of car was used in the crime that sent a woman to the hospital.

The wreck happened about 4 a.m. Sunday when a woman crossing the road was hit by the driver of what police believe is a silver Dodge Charger.

The wreck happened on High School Road just north of 38th Street.

There are a few street lights in the area, but no crosswalk.

Police don’t know why 35-year-old Daniela Lopez-Jimenez was crossing High School Road that time of day.

“All I know is the young woman was crossing the street on Sunday morning when she was hit,” IMPD Sgt. Catherine Cummings said.

The driver fled the scene, leaving the woman in the road.

“It is believed at this point that the suspect who hit the woman on Sunday morning left the scene without rendering any aide to the injured woman or calling 911,” Cummings said.

The woman was eventually taken to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Police combed the area, looking for any clues.

“It has to do with whatever little items of evidence they can find at the scene and what they can put together,” Cummings said.

Police are now looking for a silver 2006 to 2010 Dodge Charger.

“And it should have damage on the front end, probably on the drivers’ side,” she said.

The suspect is wanted for leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.

The hospital reports the woman hit is getting better. She was listed in serious condition Monday evening.

If you have any information about the incident, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
