House passes 2 bills to curb meth

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Two measures to curb methamphetamine production in Indiana are on their way to the governor’s desk after receiving approval from the full House.

One measure would allow pharmacy regulars to buy pseudoephedrine medicine, which is a key ingredient in meth, normally while at the same time allowing pharmacists to sell limited quantities to unfamiliar customers before requiring a prescription.

The other bill passed would add drug offenders to a national pseudoephedrine tracking system and would ban offenders from buying such medicine without a prescription.

Both bills come after wide debate on how to stop Indiana’s meth problem as it tops the national list for meth lab seizures for the third year in a row.
