INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers say a suspect is dead after an attempted burglary on the city’s east side.

Officers arrived to the scene around 8:30 a.m. near 10th and Rural streets. Police say they found the unidentified man suffering from a stab wound. EMS personnel arrived and pronounced him dead.

According to IMPD, the victim of the attempted burglary noticed the suspect breaking into the home and stabbed him.

“I understand self defense, someone breaks into your home and you want to protect yourself, maybe it would be different if he had a gun or something but a knife, you get caught in the moment and you have to do what you have to do,” Flavius Tyler said. “It’s an unfortunate situation but they say crime doesn’t pay right?”

IMPD says the house has a number of rooms that are being rented out, but at the time of the incident only two people were home. Detectives took those two cooperating people in for questioning. Police say one is a man who is directly involved and the other is a woman who is not involved.

No arrest has been made and the investigation is on-going. Police say no motive has been established.
