Church burglar caught on surveillance video

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — On Friday around 1:00 a.m., an unknown man walked into the frame of the cameras at Nehemiah Bible Church.

The man with a hood covering his face walks back out of frame, but when he comes back in the picture he has a massive rock.

He then throws the rock at the glass door window. He walks inside the church for a little over 60 seconds. While inside, he passes through the building and snatches coats off the coat rack, then he runs off into the night.

“Somebody was cold, maybe they needed a coat,” said Ms. Rosie, who owns Rosie’s Riblets food truck, just down the street from the break-in.

Officers arrived to the scene and cleared the building. By Friday morning, members of Nehemiah Bible Church were at the church cleaning up the damage left behind.

Investigators don’t know much about the suspect. There have been several break-ins reported in the area, but it’s unclear if they are connected.

Nehemiah Bible Church has been a sanctuary for those that live in the Brookside area. The church runs a food pantry and has been a beacon for the community, a place where children are welcome.

While police try to explain the unexplainable, Rosie gave her thoughts on why someone would target a church that serves the community.

“You are raising people today who have no fear of God. You and I were taught to fear God and fear our parents,” said Rosie.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is taking tips in the investigation. If you have any information call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
