Hancock Regional Hospital opens New Wellness Center

Get fit, get healthy and learn all about nutrition! You can do just that at the new Hancock Regional Wellness Center in McCordsville. Nutritionist Michelle Graves, along with Chef Jake Burgess of Fox Gardin Kitchen & Ale in Fortville, take over our Indy Style kitchen to show us a few healthy and easy-to-make dishes!Amenities in the new 48,000 square foot wellness facility include:

• TechnoGym equipment that can track performance, 40 cardio and 30 strength training machines

• 25-yard lap pool, heated therapy pool, and whirlpool

• Full-court basketball court

• Indoor walking/jogging track

• 2 large group class fitness rooms, one with 18 cycling bikes

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, at just over 5,000, McCordsville’s population grew 5 percent from 2010 to 2014, twice as much as the U.S. average 1.7 percent and five times as much Indiana’s average population change of .9 percent. At 4,000, the population of neighboring Fortville grew 3.2 percent.

The center aims to join the Hancock Wellness Center in Greenfield to become one of only four Certified Medical Fitness Center in Indiana. To be certified by the Medical Fitness Association, a facility must meet over 200 standards and guidelines, including having oversight by a medical director and offering clinically integrated wellness programs. The Wellness Center in McCordsville already meets many of the criteria, including offering programs to manage chronic conditions, such as arthritis, Parkinson’s, cancer, and diabetes, along with other health and nutrition classes.

Founded in 1951 in Greenfield, Ind., Hancock Regional Hospital is a full-service, acute care hospital certified by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program. Today, with facilities also in Knightstown and McCordsville, the campus offers dozens of inpatient and outpatient services, including primary care, 24-hour emergency and critical care services, as well as obstetrics, bariatric, oncology, mental health, hospice, and home healthcare services.

Hancock Regional Hospital also has two Wellness Centers, an Accredited Chest Pain Center, and has been named a “Best Places to Work” by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and Modern Healthcare Magazine.
