Henry County traffic stop leads to discovery of marijuana grow in Michigan

HENRY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A Michigan man has been arrested as a traffic stop in Indiana led to a drug bust in his hometown.

James Marquis of Owosso, Michigan was pulled over by a Hancock County deputy for traffic violations on Interstate 70 on Thursday morning.

Police said the 45-year-old Marquis was found to have a loaded handgun on him and that marijuana could be seen. The smell of marijuana was also noticeable, according to investigators.

During a search of the vehicle, Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (a multi-jurisdiction task force consisting of officers from the Henry and Hancock county sheriff’s offices and also the Richmond Police Department) members found a package of marijuana weighing more than one pound, a second loaded handgun, a shotgun and more than 200 pieces of drug paraphernalia.Edit

Investigators followed up with the Michigan State Police, who discovered a large marijuana growing operation at the home of Marquis. Investigators said more than 36 plants and 100 grams of processed marijuana was seized.

In Indiana, Marquis faces preliminary charges of possession with intent to deal marijuana, possession of a handgun without a license and possession of paraphernalia.
