IU student arrested after suspicious package found on campus

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – An Indiana University student was arrested on early Friday after police say he left a suspicious package outside the Student Services building.

According to IUPD officers, an employee reported the package around 8:20 p.m. A U.S. Postal Service box was found on the north side of the building.

Police closed the building. Because of the time of day and since the box was in an isolated area police said the box didn’t pose an immediate threat to students and staff.

The box was sealed and the words “Call the Bomb Squad” were written on top of the box. The Indiana State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team was notified and it was determined that the box did not contain an explosive device.

A suspect was identified due to the contents of the box. Police served a search warrant at 1:40 a.m. and arrested Daven Patton on preliminary charges of Terroristic Mischief.
