Man killed after stepping into path of oncoming driver

GREENFIELD – Police say a man died in a crash late Thursday in Greenfield.

According to a release from the Hancock County fatal Accident Crash Team the crash happened in the 2300 block of South County Road 200 West.

Police say the crash involved Ford Focus and a pedestrian in the roadway. The Focus was traveling northbound on 200 West when the car struck the pedestrian, 20-year-old Kyle Gulley of Greenfield.

According to the report Gulley was trying to off-load a car onto a tow truck when he stepped into the path of an oncoming driver. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver of the striking car was taken to Hancock Regional Hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

Police do not believe that the driver of the Focus was impaired or that criminal activity was involved. The crash was still under investigation on Friday afternoon.
