Ten Point and EmployIndy team up to take job opportunities into neighborhoods

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An outreach this weekend will try to get young people on a track to get training and then jobs.

The Indianapolis Ten Point Coalition and WorkOne Indy are partnering up to try and match available jobs with people who are out of work.

Rev. Charles Harrison and members of WorkOne Indy were in the gym tonight, sharing information about available jobs with the guys who came to play. Rev. Harrison says he doesn’t know of any other group that is going into the neighborhoods to connect at-risk young people with jobs and career pathways.

“There’s a lack of money out there, there’s very high unemployment,” said Rev. Harrison. “So what we’re trying to do is to take the resources, in the areas where we’re having the highest levels of violence, to the most vulnerable, the most at-risk youth and ex-offenders in our community.”

EmployIndy Vice President John Spanogle said, “We’re charging ourselves to get out in the community. The unemployment rate is down so the traffic isn’t coming into our WorkOne (offices), so we have to get out and find those clients, and that’s what we’re out here to do tonight.”

Work One is offering jobs, but also training, leadership development and resume help.

Work One employees will be out with members of Ten Point tomorrow to talk to people in the neighborhoods about the job opportunities that are available.
