Police identify teen killed in Friday evening crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has released the name of the teenager killed in a Friday night crash.

Officers said he’s Alejandro Magdaleno Trujillo, 16. Police said Trujillo was a student at North Central High School student.

IMPD said Trujillo was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima when he ran into a tree at the intersection of Washington Boulevard West Drive and East 91st street. The crash happened just after 9:00 p.m. on Friday.

Investigators said the 16-year-old driver was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived. The passenger in the car, a 17-year-old male, was taken to St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital for minor injuries.

Investigators have preliminarily determined the Nissan was speeding west on East 91st Street.

They said Trujillo likely did not see an approaching stop sign and probably locked up the car’s brakes in a frantic attempt to stop. It’s believed Trujillo lost control of the car and then ran into a tree.

Investigators said they will not draw blood because the 16-year-old died in the crash.

The Junior Class Sponsor at North Central High School, Paige Vinson, released a statement on Trujillo’s death Sunday afternoon.

Alex was one of the most genuine and caring students I have had the pleasure of knowing. Always quick with a joke and a smile, Alex would do anything to help his classmates. He was intelligent, engaged and had an undoubtedly bright future ahead of him. His absence creates a hole in the North Central family and he will be missed.

The school will have counselors on hand Monday morning for students and staff.

IMPD wants to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding.

The department also encourages parents to review the restrictions in place for Indiana Probationary Driver License, which is anyone under the age of 21.
