Colts, Vinatieri agree on contract extension

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Colts and kicker Adam Vinatieri agreed to a new contract extension Tuesday.

“We are thrilled to retain Adam as a member of the Colts family,” said Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson. “Adam continues to play at the highest level year in and year out and his hard work, consistency and professionalism are a credit to him being the longest tenured active player in the NFL.”

Next season will be Vinatieri’s 11th with the Colts and his 21st overall.

Last year, Vinatieri made 25-of-27 field goals and scored 107 points for the Colts. It marked the 18th time in his career that Vinatieri eclipsed 100 points in a season, extending his own NFL record. He was also named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in November.

Over the past two seasons, Vinatieri has made 55-of-58 field goals. His 94.8 make percentage over that time period is the best in the NFL.

Vinatieri has appeared in five Super Bowls, and is a four-time Super Bowl winner. He ranks third in NFL history in total points scored as well as career made field goals. He has made the Pro Bowl three times.

Prior to joining the Colts in 2006, Vinatieri played 10 seasons for the New England Patriots.
