Man convicted in killing of 15-year-old girl

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A guilty verdict has been returned against an ex-convict accused of killing a 15-year-old girl whose badly burned body was found in an Indianapolis backyard.

William Gholston was convicted Wednesday, about a year and a half after Dominique Allen was last seen alive. Police said she was kidnapped on Aug. 31, 2014, from the sidewalk in front of her older sister’s Indianapolis home. An autopsy found Allen was asphyxiated.

The 46-year-old Gholston was charged with murder after authorities say DNA found on one of Allen’s sandals and her body matched DNA samples from Gholston. He was arrested three months after Allen’s death.

Defense attorney David Staples contended during the trial there were no witnesses or evidence showing what happened to Allen from the time she disappeared until her body was found.
