INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – As we get closer to spring a hiring spree is under way for some businesses. Places like Sullivan Hardware on Keystone and major chains like The Home Depot and Lowe’s are also getting ready.

For them it’s their busiest hiring season of the year and the national chains say they need thousands of workers. The Home Depot announced it was hiring more than 80,000 associates for the Spring nationwide. Lowes says it needs 46,000 for Spring.

If you’re looking for work try looking at a construction job, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, hiring in April, May and June for the construction industry doubles the pace of December hiring. These are seasonal jobs but if you are looking for permanent work experts say the market has been improving.

Joe Frank from Indiana’s Workforce Development says there have been 140,000 jobs created over the last three years. He also says unemployment rate is 1.5 percent lower than last year, all of that means better opportunities for job seekers.

“Businesses and employers are having to compete over employees,” said Frank. “Which drives up wages so definitely this type of economic situation part time and seasonal employment comes into play and into importance.”

Right now unemployment in Indiana sits at a 4.4 percent rate.  It’s the second largest drop in the U.S. from last year.

Tips for Spring Hiring:
