Only 3 Indy 500 drivers are four time winners

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) – There are three Indianapolis 500 winners who have won the race four times.

Al Unser won the race in 1970, 1971, 1978 and again in 1987.

Rick Mears won his races in 1979, 1984, 1988 and in 1991.

The last driver, AJ Foyt won in 1961, 1964, 1967 and in 1977. Foyt was the first driver to win four races at Indy 500.

Foyt’s car that he took his final laps in, in 1993 is on display at the Foyt Wine Vault in Speedway.
