IMPD officers, leaders meet with north side residents

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Residents of one north side community had an opportunity Tuesday to meet the men and women tasked with protecting them.

It was part of a community forum hosted by IMPD held at North United Methodist Church on Meridian Street.

Residents had the chance to meet officers and share concerns.

IMPD Chief Troy Riggs, IMPD Commander Chris Bailey and other north district officers were on hand.

Indianapolis police identified six areas of the city with higher crime rates.

Those areas make up only 4.7 percent of the city’s population but account for more than one third of shootings and homicides.

IMPD hopes events like this make residents feel more comfortable with their officers and, in turn, lead to reduced crime.
