Colts fans captivated by Peyton Manning announcement: ‘He is Indianapolis’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – For 30 minutes, Colts fans were captivated by the Peyton Manning news conference.

Despite NCAA tournament games on other screens at The District Tap in Indianapolis Friday, sports fans watched 24-Hour News 8 as Manning was honored by the Colts.

“He is Indianapolis,” Colts fan Bob Kort said.

“People in Indianapolis love Peyton Manning,” Colts fan Linda Woodburn said. “There’s nobody else like him.”

Woodburn would know. The Colts fan said she went to every home game Manning played during his 14 seasons with the team. Even though he went to the Broncos, she shed tears after the Colts announced they will honor him.

“It is such a blessing that they retired his jersey and they’re building a statue for him because he is the ultimate player and such a humble man,” Woodburn said.

The speech wasn’t only about honoring the quarterback. Manning shared memories from his Colts days, providing insight that was enjoyed by the fans.

“He’s great on his feet, and I expect to hear maybe some stories and some good things that he’s done here,” Kort said.

An exciting day for Colts fans that generated their own March Madness.

“Maybe we should’ve had one or two more Super Bowls, but what he did for Indianapolis, as far as bringing a basketball state and turning it into a football state is pretty amazing,” Weber said.

The next thing fans are excited to hear is when the jersey number retirement ceremony will take place. You can bet there will be plenty of fans wearing number 18 to that game.
