Woman accused of stealing $18K from Parent Teacher Organization

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Police arrested a woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from an elementary school’s parent teacher organization (PTO).

On Thursday, Indiana State Police arrested Genevieve Meyer, 36, following a four month investigation into allegations she was stealing money from the Heritage Elementary School PTO.

Back in November, the PTO asked state police to get involved when an audit showed a large amount of money was missing.

Investigators determined between January 2013 and November 2014, Meyer used the PTO’s credit card and had withdrawn money, totaling more than $18,000.

Meyer served as the treasurer of the organization.

Prosecutors charged Meyer with two counts of theft.

East Allen County Schools responded to the incident with the following statement:

East Allen County Schools became aware of an investigation of an alleged theft at Heritage Elementary School of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) funds involving a former volunteer of that organization. The funds in question are NOT district or school funds. These funds are raised outside of the EACS district.

EACS fully cooperated with law enforcement officials during the investigation. In deference to the investigation by the Indiana State Police, we are not at liberty to discuss any further details.
