‘Spin in win’ was Danny Sullivan’s claim to Indy 500 win

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) – Sometimes a race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is remembered for a dramatic moment. That’s exactly what happened during a 1985 race.

The dramatic moment earned its own title. The “spin in win” was during the 1985 race when Danny Sullivan was leading Mario Andretti in the Indianapolis 500. Sullivan began spinning and almost crashed, but he recovered and continued the race.

Sullivan ended up winning the Indy 500 that year. It was his one victory in 12 starts at the “greatest spectacle in racing.”
