INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were on scene of a death investigation on Monday.
IMPD sources say the body was an 18-year-old Ben Davis High School student. They have identified her as Renia Woods.
The Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township released this statement after the release of her name.
We are deeply saddened by the death of Ben Davis High School senior Renia Woods, and are cooperating fully with law enforcement officers investigating her death.
The Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township is closed this week and next for spring break. However, counselors are being made available at Ben Davis for any students or staff who wish to utilize them.
According to IMPD, Woods was found near a dumpster at 14th Street and North Campbell Avenue. Police discovered her body around 9:43 a.m.
Police say Woods was found unresponsive and was later pronounced dead on scene.
The investigation her death continues and police are awaiting toxicology reports in order to better determine the cause of death.
“She was beautiful young girl, she was angel. It was ‘yes ma’am and no ma’am.’ She was very polite and quiet,” said neighbor Angela Bacey.
We are learning from investigators that Woods was babysitting her younger siblings. At one point, she stepped outside and never returned. On Monday, a man collecting trash found her body beside the dumpster.
