MARTIN COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – A Shoals man was arrested after nearly crashing into an Indiana State Police trooper on Sunday.

On Sunday afternoon, Trooper Ross Johnson was patrolling US 50 east in Shoals when he saw a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado traveling at a high rate of speed while partially in the trooper’s lane.

According to police, the car was going 72 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone.

The car swerved off of the road to avoid the collision.

The driver of the car was 50-year-old Paul Davis of Shoals.

During the stop, there were reasons to believe Davis had been under the influence of alcohol.

Davis refused any tests and was placed into custody for Operating While Intoxicated – Chemical Test Refusal.

Davis was taken to the Martin County Jail without incident.

Indiana State Police want to remind drivers that they remain vigilant in taking intoxicated drivers off the roads.

During the weeks of March 4-27, Indiana State Police will be participating in Operation Pull Over.
