Arrangements to honor Deputy Carl Koontz released

KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) – The funeral arrangements for fallen Deputy Carl Koontz were announced on Tuesday morning.

Koontz, 27, was killed in a shootout while serving a warrant early Sunday morning. He leaves behind a wife, Cassie, and young son, Noah.

A ceremony to honor his life will be on Tuesday March 29, at Northwestern High School. Other arrangements are as follows:

  • Visitation: Monday March 28, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Northwestern High School.
  • Funeral: Tuesday March 29, at 11 a.m. at Northwestern High School. Burial will follow at Albright Cemetery in Kokomo.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office said Koontz died from a single gunshot wound to the pelvis. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Indiana State Police said Monday that suspect, Evan Dorsey shot and killed himself. The Howard County Coroner’s Office says the preliminary autopsy report for Dorsey revealed a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
