City of Fishers to hold art design contest

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) – Submissions are being accepted for a community art project in Fishers.

The City of Fishers with Fishers Urban Development are accepting entries to decorate the east side of the Edge development parking garage.

The garage serves as an entrance point to Fisher’s downtown area.

“The recent growth in the Nickel Plate District makes it an ideal location for public art,” said Mayor Scott Fadness. “The artwork will be showcased in a highly visible area and help further define the space for residents, travelers and businesses experiencing our community.”

According to the release, the artwork will be displayed on large panels that are 23 feet tall and 7 feet wide.

Artists can submit up to three design concepts. Designs must be stamped no later than 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 5.

“This project is exciting as it provides opportunities for the City to continue collaborating with art advocates,” said Deputy Mayor Leah McGrath. “The Selection community as outlined in the Community Art Master Plan, will select the finalist. That committee is comprised of members from the city council, Fishers Art Council, Nickel Plate Arts, local artists and other city staff.”

The selection will hopefully be made by early August. They hope to unveil the artwork by early fall.
