DHS event helps families prepare for severe weather

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Department of Homeland Security hosted an open house Tuesday to help families prepare for severe weather.

It was held at the Emergency Operations Center as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Residents were able to check out the tornado sirens and monitoring equipment used by officials.

Homeland Security Chief Gary Coons hopes the event inspires families to make their own safety plan in case of bad weather.

Coons’ biggest advice is to have a weather radio inside your home since tornado sirens are not meant to be hear from inside.
