Workout Wednesday: Exercise while you clean

This spring, let your spring cleaning help you spring into better shape! The job of keeping your house or apartment clean is never-ending. If you add kids into the mix, it can be really difficult to find the time to squeeze in a workout. So this spring, why not take advantage of the time spent cleaning and add some working out to your daily chores.

Here are some simple examples from Firefighter Tim:

Start with some vacuum lunges: take long deep steps as you vacuum and slowly move forward and feel the burn in your thighs and butt. While doing laundry you can work on toning and strengthening your legs. Start by setting your laundry basket with your clean cloths in it on your side, and place another basket on your other side. At this time, turn, squat, pick up an item of clothes, fold it, and then turn and squat and place the folded clothes in the other basket.

You can also work your core while folding clothes. Start again with one laundry basket on your side. Sit on your bottom with your legs straight in front of you in a V up position. While holding this position, you can turn from side to side taking laundry out and folding it placing it into the other basket on your other side.

Why not try some planks to work your core while your putting your kiddos’ toys back in the toy box.?! You can also work your core, shoulders, and chest while you get down and really scrub those tough spots on the floor. First, get down on your knees with your floor cleaning rag in your hands, get into a semi push-up position, and now slide the rag forward cleaning the floor using your abs to pull your self back up into position. Repeat until the spot is clean or your shoulders and abs are burning. Remember, there are always ways to fit your exercise into your day!
