MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A “Rose Ride” this Saturday will benefit the family of fallen Howard County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Carl Koontz.

27-year-old Koontz was fatally shot earlier this month while serving a warrant in Russiaville.

Sergeant Jordan Buckley was also wounded in the incident. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office is organizing the police-escorted motorcycle ride. They will escort riders from the Grissom Air Museum in Peru to the Howard County Sheriff’s Office in Kokomo.

Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the ride takes off at 2 p.m.

Koontz leaves behind his wife and an 8-month-old son. The proceeds from this weekend’s ride will go directly to Koontz’ family.

Participants are invited to bring a rose or a flower to place on the memorial at the Howard County Sheriff’s Office. Organizers are asking for a $5 minimum donation.
