Man’s suit alleges P&G’s Old Spice deodorant caused rashes

CINCINNATI (AP) – A Virginia man alleges in a federal lawsuit that a Procter & Gamble Co. deodorant caused rashes, burning and other discomfort.

The suit filed this month in the U.S. district court for southern Ohio seeks damages, restitution and other penalties for P&G while asking a judge to certify it as a class action. Plaintiff Rodney Colley, of Alexandria, Virginia, claims there are “hundreds, if not thousands” of unnamed consumers possibly damaged by the company’s actions and products.

The complaint cites 13 deodorants in the Old Spice line, with names including Swagger, Fiji and Bearglove.

P&G spokesman Damon Jones says the Cincinnati-based consumer products maker is still reviewing the complaint but is confident that Old Spice is safe to use, and that tens of millions of men use it with confidence.
