Five injured in Bartholomew Co. crash

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Five people were injured in a crash near Columbus Friday evening.

According to Indiana State Police, the crash happened just after 7 p.m. near the 58.5 mile marker on I-65 in Bartholomew County.

Police said that 39-year-old Bryan Davis was traveling southbound on I-65 when his 2011 Hyundai Sonata struck the rear of a 2015 Kia SUV also headed southbound.

The 2015 Kia was being driven by 51-year-old Brian Dayharsh.  Dayharsh, along with his four daughters, ages 14 to 6, were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Police went on to say that collision caused both off the roadway, with Dayharsh’s vehicle to roll and stop upright off the road.

Dayharsh and three of his daughters were taken to Columbus Regional Hospital after complaining of pain.  A fourth daughter was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health.

Police said none of the injuries are thought to be life threatening.

Davis, who was not injured in the crash, did exhibit signs of intoxication police said.  He was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital where a blood draw was administered.

Davis was then arrested and he now faces a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
