Clinton campaign arrives in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Hillary Clinton campaign named a state director for Indiana Wednesday. Peter Hanscom is a former aide to Sen. Joe Donnelly.

The Clinton campaign plans to open an Indiana headquarters in Indianapolis before the end of the week, and regional offices are also in the works.

It’s news that comes about a week after Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders opened a Broad Ripple headquarters.

Hanscom believes the nomination will still be up for grabs in five weeks.

“Hoosier voters should be excited that what happens here in the primary on May 3 is gonna matter, as to who becomes the nominee for the Democratic Party,” he said.

Hanscom says there are no plans yet for any Hillary Clinton campaign stops in Indiana but, because this is the only state holding a primary on May 3, it seems inevitable that she will make appearances here.

“We are building a truly statewide campaign that is going to be to a full scale of what you would expect for a statewide primary here,” said Hanscom, who is a campaign veteran.

Most recently he was the chief organizer for Indiana Competes, a coalition of business interests who fought for new LGBT protections in Indiana.
