Columbus crash leads to injuries, OWI arrest

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Police say a woman involved in an accident was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

According to a release, an accident involving two cars happened near N 500 E and N Rogers Street in Columbus.

Julia Sorokin, 44, was traveling northbound on N 500 E when her Jeep Wrangler collided with a Pontiac car driven by a 25-year-old male from North Vernon.

Sorokin had three passengers in her Jeep, one adult and two children.

A witness told deputies that Sorokin’s vehicle crossed the center line prior to colliding with the Pontiac.

An adult in her Jeep was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital.

The driver of the Pontiac also went to Columbus Regional Hospital but was not transported.

Deputies said they detected the odor of alcohol on Sorokin. She was arrested for operating a operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-endangerment.

Sorokin was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail but has since been released on $5,000 bond.
