Rain and storms Wednesday evening, severe storms Thursday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Unsettled pattern returns to central Indiana, with mild temperatures and storm chances through late Thursday night.

For Wednesday evening, expect widespread rain and a few thunderstorms to develop around early evening.

Storms should remain below severe limits, but could produce torrential downpours.

Storm chance will diminish late Wednesday, but light rain will continue across much of central Indiana through the overnight and into much of the morning Thursday.

Once this first batch of rain moves out by late morning Thursday, attention will move to the severe storm threat for Thursday afternoon and evening.

Most of central Indiana is under a slight risk for severe storms Thursday, while portions of western Indiana have been upgraded to an enhanced risk for severe storms.

The big question is how quickly the atmosphere can recover following the morning rain Thursday.

If we can tap into a couple hours of sunshine early Thursday afternoon, it could provide plenty of instability for widespread strong, if not severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening.

If clouds hang tough, severe weather threat will diminish slightly and won’t be quite as widespread.

All modes of severe weather will be in play, with damaging winds, large hail and the possibility of tornadoes.
