IMPD creates emotional tribute video for Deputy Koontz’s son

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has released a touching video shot on the day of Deputy Carl Koontz’s funeral.

The video, uploaded to the YouTube account of IMPD’s Ron Shelnutt, is shot primarily from the sky, giving viewers an inspiring view from above.

The video starts with the words “For Noah,” Koontz’s young son.

The YouTube video also includes a note for Noah:

Dear Noah,

I was at your Dad’s funeral. I never met your father, but from what I saw and heard on this day, he was loved and admired by many. I was ask by the Indiana State Police to come and film your fathers services. They will make their own video for your family and the public. I made this video for you, knowing that you will not remember this day. I hope, in some small way, when you are older this video helps you see what happened. Police officers and deputies from around the country came to see your father and to honor him. Citizens of Howard County and from all around Indiana came out to show respect and to say thank you to your Dad. I hope to meet you some day and tell you what I saw.

Kind Regards,

Ron Shelnutt

Crowds lining the streets are seen from a different vantage point than what was visible on Tuesday. The emotional 10-42 for Koontz can be heard while thousands gathered at the cemetery where he was laid to rest.
