IMPD tweet keeps unsolved murder case in the public’s eye

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — On Wednesday evening just before 8 p.m., the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department sent out a tweet. The tweet asked for help. In less than 140 characters, the tweet asked for information in the murder investigation of Henry Dunn.

On Jan. 11, 2015, someone knocked on Dunn’s door in the wee hours of the morning. Dunn opened the door, and someone shot him. Dunn died from his injures, but more than a year later police have made no arrests and there appears to be no suspects.

“Nothing new I can share right now,” said Assistant IMPD Chief Randall Taylor.

Investigators believe Nunn may have been targeted for speaking out against criminal activity in his neighborhood. Those who knew Dunn called him a stand-up guy who refused to back down from troublemakers in his neighborhood.

IMPD is pushing to get more information in some of the city’s unsolved murder cases. One way to keep the cases in the public’s eye is by tweeting and posting the unsolved cases on the internet.

The goal is that someone will see the post and not only contact police, but be willing to cooperate in the investigation.

“We need people to come forward that will testify in court, it’s not enough to say such and such did it, we got to be able to bring you to court,” said Taylor.

In the future, IMPD will post more unsolved cases on the internet through Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites.

Taylor said that the department is currently working on improving the communication lines between the families of homicide victims and the detectives working the investigation.

If you have any information in the Nunn investigation, or other unsolved cases, you are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477). Information may be given anonymously.
