One arrested after early morning accident in southern Vigo County

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – One arrest was made after an early morning accident in Vigo County.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash that happened around 2 a.m. Thursday in the southern part of Vigo County.

Deputies responded to the 5400 block of West Middletown Dr. where a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee had left the roadway and struck a WIN Energy utility pole.

The driver, Justin Richey, told police that he lost control of the Jeep when he was swerving because of a deer in the road.

VCSO reports he was not wearing a seatbelt. It also reports he had a BAC of .14 percent and tested positive for controlled substances

“Mr. Richey has several pending charges once he is released from hospital care,” Vigo County Chief Deputy Moats stated.

He could face charges of operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator, operating a vehicle while never receiving a license and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
