Police badge found in home of man accused of killing deputy

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Indiana State Police say a police badge was found inside the home of Evan Dorsey.

ISP said the police badge was located in the trailer where Howard County Sheriff Carl Koontz was shot and killed. They say it was not dropped during the deadly shooting incident.

It’s not clear where it came from or how Dorsey got it. Police are still trying to determine if the badge is authentic.

Koontz, 27, was hit in an exchange of gunfire around 12:30 a.m. on March 20 at Dorsey’s trailer park on West Chandler Street in Russiaville. Dorsey died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
