Trial set for Ohio student who rushed Trump rally stage

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) – A federal trial date has been set for an Ohio college student who rushed the stage at a Donald Trump rally.

Chief Magistrate Sharon Ovington in Dayton on Thursday scheduled trial for May 31 for 22-year-old Thomas DiMassimo on a charge of illegally entering a restricted area. She also scheduled an April 15 status conference.

DiMassimo was arrested at the Republican presidential candidate’s rally March 12 at an airport hangar near Dayton. Video from the rally shows that DiMassimo touched the stage where Trump was speaking, as Secret Service agents and other security converged.

DiMassimo has pleaded not guilty. His attorney has said the Wright State University student was trying only to ensure that his political views were heard.

The charge carries a potential sentence of a year in prison.
