Voter registration up ahead of Indiana primary

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – With the Indiana primary coming up in May, more and more Hoosiers are registering to vote.

According to the Marion County Board of Voters, 35,000 county residents have either updated their voter registration or registered to vote for the first time.

That number is about 50 percent higher than four years ago.

There is also an increase in the number of people registering to vote online, which can be done through a mobile app or the state’s website.

Registration can also be done in person at the library, the BMV, or the City-County Building.

“I think Indiana’s primary is in play, and both major political parties are beginning to do their outreach to make sure that they can get their voters to the polls come May 3rd,” said Scott Carr of the Marion County Board of Voter Registration.

Anyone registering to vote for the first time will need a photo ID.

The deadline to register to vote in the Indiana primary is April 4.
