Wording changes for CAFO, CFO zoning proposal

MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) – A zoning discussion brought dozens of White County residents to a special Area Plan Commission meeting Wednesday night.

As News 18 told you last week, area planners are considering some zoning changes to protect lakes and recreational areas from businesses like confined feeding operations, digesters and auction barns.

The APC changed the language of the proposal amendment Wednesday to make it clear that the intent is to provide proper buffering between residential areas and agricultural businesses.

APC Executive Director Joe Rogers said it’s beneficial to them anytime they get clarifying language for an ordinance.

“This amendment goes into much greater detail into how they expect us to manage CAFO and CFO operations,” said Rogers. “So we’re happy with what’s happening and how this is going to come forth to us.”

The APC is scheduled to vote on the amendment at their next meeting, which will be on April 11 in the Twin Lakes High School cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m.

It then must be voted on by each legislative body from the county and communities.
